Hi all,
Another Graham here. Some of you will know me (Foggy, Jamie, eglfjohn, Bill).
I was fortunate enough to be the General Aviation Operations Officer for the BAA at Heathrow from 1989 to 1997, scheduling bizjet slots there until we ran out of slots because that nasty man Mr Branson acquired all the spare ones!! But it was good fun mostly and I made many friends in the GA Handling Agents and based operators. I managed to get quite a lot of rides in various bizjets, perks of the job! All in all, I worked at LHR from 1985 until I retired from there at the end of 2005. I went back to work there for an aviation consultancy company a couple of years ago, but since I had moved from the area, I realised I was getting too old to hack it around the M25 everyday, so gave that up after 10 months.
I'm now working nearer to home, my office is on the old Hatfield airfield, and as I'm nearer to Luton than anywhere else, that is where I'm mostly to be found. I do come down to EGLF as often as I can but usually only when it is worth my while. When I'm not chasing bizjets, I'm often found chasing light GA in Germany which I like to think is my speciality, it is my favourite part of the hobby. Although I have travelled extensively around Europe's GA fields since I started spotting in the late 70s, I found my niche in Germany, and while I spent a huge amount of time cleaning out G-s all over the UK, that is becoming less and less enjoyable these days. I can't be doing with jobsworths with attitude and their ridiculous excuses any more, so I'd rather be in Germany where their attitude is totally the opposite, making the hobby so enjoyable over there. I have yet to hear the excuse "because of insurance" anywhere in Europe!
Cheers and thanks again to Dave and Ken for setting up a great forum. Here's to its continued success.
