Update 14/4/23
We have surpassed 50,000 signatures on the petition. Thank you to all who have taken the time to sign it.
We have always aimed to keep the aircraft collection together and avoid massive transportation costs. Therefore, the relocation to a brand new site next to the airfield was ideal. It would have been an amazing facility which would have been of the standard you expect from the RAF Museums but with the benefit of climbing into the cockpits. (& a slightly smaller site)
With a relatively short timescale to create and execute a definitive relocation plan and a tangible lack of vison & limited support from the local authority - we are now in a desperate rush to vacate our site.
Attracting a million £ investor, securing a new site, engaging with architects, receiving a favourable pre-planning application, and establishing a new charity to run the new STEM Education & Visitors Centre within 12 months whilst exiting Covid - was just not enough to get us over the line. Frustratingly, this strategy came with it's risks - and in this case - it hasn't paid off.
We have spent the week breaking the exhibits down, finding new owners for everything and moving the aircraft to await collection. As ever, our volunteer team have worked tirelessly and continue to do so.
Cornwall Council have helped by allowing us to position the aircraft on the old runway next to the VC10 & BAC1-11. We are very grateful for this.
We can confirm that the majority of the collection have new owners lined up. However, the council have given the job of forcing our exit from HAS3 to CBRE (Global Real Estate Services) who are now managing the airport estate for them. As the airport & CBRE are no longer able to give any further flexibility to our occupation, we now have the situation where a few historical relics will have to be put outside in the wind & rain unless we have a solution within the next 48 hours. These aircraft CANNOT be left outside and CBRE seem unable to offer us temporary access to two empty hangers on the estate.
We are appealing for anyone, or any organisation who maybe able to expedite some transport or temporary storage nearby to contact us urgently.
