There's quite a few rumours about the above on t'internet at the mo. CVN71 is undertaking a world tour and is heading eastbound across the Atlantic. There are suggestions COD operations will be occurring at Yeovilton on 22/3 and 28/3, which suggests the carrier will be 'at sea' on those days. What it's doing in between is anyone's guess, but perhaps a visit to Stokes Bay is a distinct possibility. Therefore, the following links may be of use in the coming days: www.navy.mil/local/cvn71/www.ship-tracking.co.uk/

I'm guessing this evening's appearance of a USN C-2 at FAB is as good an indication as any that something might be heading our way.

Saw the carrier arrive in the normal location around 16:20, was unable to read codes due sun location. I counted 12 F-18 on the back and 32 on the front, 2 E-2, 1 C-2, 2 SH-60.Work will hopefully send me down there this week before it departs on Friday.

That's a decent haul. Looks like a trip down to the south coast will be a fruitful one.

The photos will be a great help, although it's a shame you couldn't have done a fly-thru of the hangars! ;-)

I will add more photos as I get the chance.
Codes on deck were on arrival FA18 102/103/104/105/106/110/111/112 201/202/203/204/205/206/207/210/211/212 300/301/302/303/304/305/306/307/310/311/312/313 FA18/Marines 400/401/402/403/404/405/406/410/411/412 EF18 500/501/502/504 E2 600/601/603/604 SH60 612 +3 (inc 2 right below tower) Tail code AB
There is a 1000ft height 1 mile radius for a/c to avoid around the carrier, I have another chance on Wednesday to fly around ship, they would be a bit touchy about flying through hanger bay though!

Superb matey!! Many thanks for sharing them with us.
Edit: Incidentally, from your photos I count 45xF18s on deck. I think you may have missed a code somewhere.

I had another photographer with me so will cross check his pics as well, I should have a friend going on board on Thursday so will hopefully get a full list, with the hanger bays logged seperate, if that is the case I will publish list.

I suspect your missing one maybe EA-18G Bu168270/AB-503, which has been listed as being on deck today (23/3).

As I'll be going down to Portsmouth today, does anyone know if there are any views from the Spinnaker Tower?
