www.surreymirror.co.uk/redhill-aerodrome-could-be-closed-and-replaced-with-an-entire-new-village/story-29846912-detail/story.html
"Ambitious plans to replace Redhill Aerodrome with 4,500 homes and effectively create a new village on the site have been announced.
The directors of the aerodrome in Kings Mill Lane, South Nutfield have carried out a review of the site and its potential for development and have come up with a scheme to build the homes, supported by schools, link roads and open space."
The owners say the airfield runs at a loss and imply that a tarmac hard runway may persuade them to continue operations as the grass runways are non operational for 3 months a year on average. Not sure why a hard runway needed for helicopters which I'd argue account for a significant number of flights now.

Redevelopement of Redhill. Here we go again. Another get rich scheme. The proposal has all the buzz words council planning departments like.

Understandably, running a loss-making airfield, the airfield owner is considering their options. And who could blame them.
I believe locals have successfully objected to previous applications for a hard runway, which would have made it more likely that the airfield would be viable.
No doubt, the locals will now object to any housing development. Anyone spot the similarities with Dunsfold.
It seems that some believe airfield operators should graft long and hard, and be satisfied making a loss. Oh, and have the obligatory deep pockets full of cash to fund their loss-making 'hobby'.
What I suspect the locals would much prefer is for the airfield to close and for the land to be returned to the greenbelt / agriculture. At least that way the taxpayer is burdened with the farming subsidies and the fallout from the resultant job losses. All very anti-business / economic opportunities (when it's near your own back yard).

Great pity if Redhill closes. I haven't been there for a long time but it brings back thoughts of my early spotting days when I logged 5N-ABU Dove, 5N-AGJ and 9Y-TCE Hiller 12Es, 9M-AMF KZIII, D-HODE Whirlwind, the glorious Monospar VH-UTH and many others.. Happy days.

A few exotic ones there 'back in the day'. I think a Nigerian-registered Super King Air is about the most exotic thing I have ever seen there.

Looking at an entry from my Jan 17 LAAS mag, seems like only a matter of time before the airfield gets handed over to the property developers for new homes to be built. Sad Days. Bob

Yes, it is looking as though there aren't going to be any major GA fields around the southern portion of the M25 between Biggin Hill and Blackbushe!
Not sure how the above, White Waltham, Booker, Denham, Elstree and Stapleford are going to fair? I guess only time will tell.

Assuming Lasham and Goodwood are also too far, Parham should work.

Buster, I know you said not Farm Strips- Jackerel Farm and one other is SLINFOLD (Grass strip) which is 9 nm from Redhill if he does not wish to travel far. Otherwise as Captain has stated Parham. Bob

If Parham is a just over an hours drive, a gliding site with nil hangarage available currently he was told.
Slinfold is by far the best option. Good idea and I'll pass that info on and no doubt many Redhill residents will be looking here as an option. The problem with many grass airfields is the poor condition of the runways unless well drained during the winter months and he a considerable amount of flying during these months as he is also a commercial pilot.
He is anxious that his 50 odd year old Jodel lives inside.

Although it's a military field, and its use is probably restricted to the hilt (for everything other than dog walking), Kenley?
