Northolt is going to be closed next year for a period of nine months for a complete runway renewal. No actual dates announced yet but maybe we will get some extra movements at FAB as their traffic disperses to other airports.

Quite possibly. The other thing to consider, may be, is the report that suggested Northolt is unsuitable for civil ops. and the legal action taken by Biggin Hill and Oxford airports. Perhaps a 9-month runway closure may provide a suitable break in operations to disperse the current traffic more permanently?
After all, I am sure most RAF airfields are 'loss leaders', and aren't intended to generate a profit for the exchequer, or be subsidised through civil use.

It's now reported that Ealing Council have earmarked the site for new homes.
Given that the third runway at LHR is likely to have a significant impact on approach and departure flightpaths, perhaps the MOD have decided to kick the runway resurfacing into the long grass, or perhaps just allow the long grass to take hold.

Thanks Andy as per JC's post it could be a long running saga. I agree that the possibility of a third Heathrow runway may put any runway resurfacing on hold. Bob
