Aviation has long had its 'own language', which only those involved and interested in it are aware of. I've never seen a list of definitions / terms published, so thought it might be 'useful' to create one. So here's a really rudimentary 'first bash':
Aluminium Overcast - B-36 Peacemaker Anorak - enthusiast / spotter Buff - B-52 Stratofortress Coffin corner - part of an aircraft's flight envelope where the minimum and maximum flight speeds are very similar. The B-47 Stratojet being a notable example Concordski - Tu-144 'Charger' Cop - new registration / frame Fat Albert - C-130 Hercules Flying Pig- Vickers Valetta Frame - individual aircraft regardless of registration carried Framer - spotter that collects frames rather than registrations Look-see - a flyby visit of an airfield to check and see what aircraft are present Lump - B747 Meatbox - Gloster Meteor Minibus - A318/19/20/21 OTT (Over The Top) - aircraft overflying at altitude Nerd / Nerding - Enthusiast involved in the act (to the uninitiated / usually wives) Pig - B737 Scrape- frame seen previously with a different registration Slicer - C750 Citation X Sluff - A-7 Corsair II Spam / Spindle - light aircraft Swinger - F-111 Aardvark Three-holer - types such as a B727, Trident, DC-10 and L1011 Thud - F-105 Thunderchief Tiffy - Typhoon Tonka - Tornado Viper - F-16 Fighting Falcon Wartog - A-10 Thunderbolt II Whale - Douglas Skywarrior Whispering Giant - Bristol Britannia Whistling Wheelbarrow - AW Argosy Widow-maker - F-104 Starfighter
Obviously, with it being such a short list, any additions are welcome.
