Rather than brave the cold in Zurich, it was Davos last week, three of us decided to head back out east with an itineray that saw us visit Kuala Lumpar, Singapore, and Jakarta in a period of 8 days,
Rather than provide a log of the based airliners seen, there were a lot logged, I'll provide a summary of the spotting opportunities at each airport and a list of the non-based airliners seen at each. As usual, I'll also be putting the photo's taken on to my Piwigo photo web site over the next couple of days into a trips folder.

First port of call was Kuala Lumpar, which we arrived at mid afternoon, after a very pleasant 12 hours on-board G-ZBKB, my first 787 flight.
On arrival we made our way straight upto the Observation deck in the main international terminal, from where all movements can be monitored. Though arrival and departures off 15/33 need to be monitored care-fully as there isn't a clear view of this runway from the main terminal. Within the terminal there is a free WiFi service combined with the good FR24 coverage in the area early heads up on arrivals makes things very easy.
Accomodation wise, we stayed at the Sama Sama hotel, which is attached to the main terminal. On this stay we were initially given a room on the third floor facing away from the airport but after a bit of haggling we managed to get a room on the 4th floor facing 14L/32R. This wasn't really high enough to monitor departures from this runway but as the observation deck is open 06:00 / 22:00 it wasn't a big issue.

Day 2 started off with a visit over to the KLIA2 terminal, which is really a shopping mall with a "low cost terminal" attached and is used by Air Asia and Malindo. Although there isn't an observation deck in this terminal, on the section between the shops and the food court, which is just prior to the security screening point there are two open air area's where movements can be monitored from. The left hand one would be great for taking landing shots in the morning if they were landing from the south-west, e.g. on 15 but you'd miss all other movements. The right hand area would then be good in the afternoon if they were landing on 14R but again you'd miss anything landing on 15/33.
Halfway through the morning we were approached by what turned out to be a Military Police officer who told us that photography wasn't permitted from the observation deck. We were then asked to delete all photographs from our cameras, this we pretended to do to keep him satisfied. This request was a bit odd as we'd be seen by a number of Civil Police officers the previous day and early that morning and they hadn't said anything. To be on the safe side, we decided not to take anymore photographs but by late afternoon the cameras were once again out, as nearly everyone else on the observation deck was taking photographs, either with SLRs or more frequently with their mobile phones.
Movement wise, the following non Malaysian were logged. 4R-ABP Airbus A320 214 5086 SriLankan Airlines 9N-ACA Boeing 757 2F8 23850 Nepal Airlines 9V-JSA Airbus A320 232 2316 Jetstar Asia Airways 9V-JSU Airbus A320 232SL 5708 Jetstar Asia Airways 9V-MGJ Boeing 737 NG 8SA/W 44226 SilkAir 9V-MGG Boeing 737 NG 8SA/W 44223 SilkAir 9V-TRB Airbus A319 132 3801 Tiger Airways 9V-SBE Airbus A319 132 2568 SilkAir 9V-SLJ Airbus A320 233 3570 SilkAir 9V-SLR Airbus A320 233 5531 SilkAir 9V-STE Airbus A330 343E 1006 Singapore Airlines 9V-STZ Airbus A330 343E 1477 Singapore Airlines 9V-TAE Airbus A320 232 2724 Tiger Airways 9V-TRI Airbus A320 232SL 5596 Tiger Airways A4O-DB Airbus A330 343E 1044 Oman Air A6-EBC Boeing 777 36NER 32790 Emirates Airline A6-EGF Boeing 777 31HER 38987 Emirates Airline A6-EGI Boeing 777 31HER 38986 Emirates Airline A6-ENM Boeing 777 31HER 41359 Emirates Airline A6-EYK Airbus A330 243 788 Etihad Airways A7-AGA Airbus A340 642 740 Qatar Airways A7-BCT Boeing 787 8 38338 Qatar Airways B-5275 Boeing 737 NG 71B/W 38912 China Southern Airlines B-5385 Boeing 737 NG 86N/W 35633 Xiamen Airlines B-5489 Boeing 737 NG 85C/W 37149 Xiamen Airlines B-6208 Airbus A319 112 2555 China Southern Airlines B-6255 Airbus A320 214 2637 China Southern Airlines B-16306 Airbus A330 203 587 EVA Air B-18806 Airbus A340 313X 433 China Airlines B-LBA Airbus A330 343E 1409 Cathay Pacific Airways B-LBB Airbus A330 343E 1436 Cathay Pacific Airways D-AIGO Airbus A340 313X 233 Lufthansa ET-ALP Boeing 767 360ER 33769 Ethiopian Airlines HS-ABB Airbus A320 216 3299 Thai AirAsia HS-ABE Airbus A320 216 3489 Thai AirAsia HS-ABK Airbus A320 216 4088 Thai AirAsia HS-TBC Airbus A330-343E 1289 Thai Airways International HZ-AK27 Boeing 777 368ER 42265 Saudi Arabian Airlines HZ-AKD Boeing 777 268ER 28347 Saudi Arabian Airlines JA829A Boeing 787 8 34520 All Nippon Airways JY-BAC Boeing 787 8 37164 Royal Jordanian Airlines N339UP Boeing 767 34AF/W 37859 United Parcel Service N723FD Airbus A300 B4-622RF 543 FedEx Express P4-KEB Boeing 767 3KYER/W 42221 Air Astana PK-AXH Airbus A320 216 3875 Indonesia AirAsia PK-AXW Airbus A320 216 5137 Indonesia AirAsia PK-AZA Airbus A320 216 5165 Indonesia AirAsia PK-GFN Boeing 737 NG 86N/W 38033 Garuda Indonesia PK-GMF Boeing 737 NG 8U3/W 30140 Garuda Indonesia PK-GMK Boeing 737 NG 8U3/W 29666 Garuda Indonesia PK-LJZ Boeing 737 NG 9GPER/W 37296 Lion Air PK-LKW Boeing 737 NG 8GP/W 38734 Lion Air PK-YGH Boeing 737 36NF 28567 Tri-MG Intra Asia Airlines RP-C4103 Airbus A320 214SL 6441 Cebu Pacific Air S2-AHN Boeing 777 3E9ER 40121 Biman Bangladesh Airlines TC-JNR Airbus A330 343E 1311 Turkish Airlines V8-RBS Airbus A320 232 2135 Royal Brunei Airlines UK67003 Boeing 767 33PER 40534 Uzbekistan Airways VN-A335 Airbus A321 231 5241 Vietnam Airlines VN-A609 Airbus A321 231 5958 Vietnam Airlines VN-A615 Airbus A321 231 6880 Vietnam Airlines

Day three started off with a quick visit to KLIA and KLIA2 before we took a taxi over to the old international airport at Subang. Though before we left, the following were logged.
4R-ABN Airbus A320 214 4869 SriLankan Airlines 9V-TAT Airbus A320 232 4532 Tiger Airways A4O-DI Airbus A330 343E 1582 Oman Air A6-EGI Boeing 777 31HER 38986 Emirates Airline A6-EGN Boeing 777 31HER 41074 Emirates Airline B-1749 Boeing 737 NG 85C/W 39909 Xiamen Airlines B-6816 Airbus A320 232 4912 China Southern Airlines JA804A Boeing 787 8 34486 All Nippon Airways PK-AXE Airbus A320 216 3715 Indonesia AirAsia PK-GFL Boeing 737 NG 86N/W 36808 Garuda Indonesia PK-LHK Boeing 737 NG 9GPER/W 37273 Lion Air YI-AQY Airbus A330 202 1339 Iraqi Airways
After a fairly quick drive over to Sepang we were dropped off at the passenger terminal where after droping off our hold bags we did a bit of exploring of the terminal and surrounding area. In the terminal there is a small observation deck where all movements can be seen, though briefly due to the terminal being set back from the main line of hangars. Outside of the terminal there were very limited views of the various aprons close to the terminal though by a bit of perseverance most of the residents can be identified. The most interesting of which was to the right of the terminal, as you look airside. This ramp contained a Malaysian Air Force Be 200 and the Libyan Air Cargo Hercules which was being worked on. Though almost as soon as we started to walk past the complex we were moved on by security, who didn't want us there.
I'll do a fuller report on this airport later as we re-visited it with a car on our return to Kuala Lumpar.

Second port of call on this trip was Singapore, which we arrived at late afternoon after the short flight down from Subang in Firefly ATR 72-600 9M-FIF. On arrival in T2 it was a quick visit to the Waving Galery in that Terminal before we headed off to the Waving Galery in Terminal 1 for the rest of the afternoon. From here most movements can be monitored although arrivals on 02L which turn and back track past terminal 3 will be missed. During the couple of hours here we logged the following non-Singapore movements before making our way over to the Crowne Plaza.

Day 4, the 24th January, was scheduled be a day for Paya Lebar and Seletar, though as we couldn't get a hire car for a reasonable price (£140 + Taxes for 12 hours) we decided to stay at Changhi. This decision was a easy one to make as our room at the Crowne Plaza gave excellent views of 02L and by taking a short walk to the end of the our floor, arrivals and departures on 02R could be seen. The non-Singapore based movements logged throughout the day were

After our day and a half at Singapore it was a early morning start on the 25th January to our third and primary destination of this trip. This time we flew on Tiger Air's A320 9V-TAE which unfortunately I'd flown on eight years early in October 2007 to Jakarta.
Once through immigration and customs and after a quick check of the waving decks attached to each of the old terminals, it was onto the courtesy bus for the slow journey to the FM7 Hotel. Here we had pre-arranged access to the roof top bar area, normally only open from 17:00 onwards, which gives great photo oportunities for arrivals on 25R plus distant views of movements on 25L.
Most of the movements at Jakarta are Indonesian with Garuda and Lion Air being the pre-dominant pair, though the low cost operators, Batik Air, Citilink, Indonesian Air Asia and Sriwijaya Air all being regular arrivals. During the 8 hours we spent on the roof toof and in between the sometime heacy rain showers the following non-Indonesian airliners were logged.

Our original plans for our day 2 in Jakarta, the 26th January, was to have a early start and visit both Halim and Pondok Cabe, both of which are within 15 miles of WIII. However, as this can take around 4 to 5 hours on a good day due to the local traffic and today wasn't forcast to be a "good day" with heavy and consistent rain forcast. We decided to stay at CGK rather than spend all day sitting in a taxi getting to the other airports.
As it turned out the local Met office is a good as the UK's at forecasting and the day turned out lovely, with no rain and plenty of sun. As with the previois day movements were dominated by Indonesian ariliners, though throughout the day we did log the following non-indonesian airliners.

For our third and final half day at Jakarta, 27th January, we decided rather than get the hotel courtesy bus to the airport to get a taxi and ask him to drive the perimeter for us. After a bit of negotiating and explaining the driver finally understood what we wanted to do, but couldn't initially understand why. However, after he'd eventually worked his way through the road works on the road that goes through the middle of the airport to the Garuda HQ, where they have the DC 3 PK-OAZ displayed, he clicked on what we wanted to see. So once on the perimeter road he drove very slowly, less than walk speed at times, allowing us to get photograph all of the stuff parked up around the various maintenance areas at the airport. This 90 minute trip cost us a grand total of about £12 which we rounded up to £15 much to the delight of the taxi driver. A list of the stored is included below.

With the 28th being our last day of the trip and the main airport being "bashed" earlier in the trip, we decided to hire a car and re-do "Subang" and to visit the Royal Malaysian Air Force musuem at Simpang. Before collecting the car, it was a quick trip up to the observation deck where the following non-Malaysian were noted.
B-6282 Airbus A320 214 2824 China Southern Airlines JA815A Boeing 787 8 40899 All Nippon Airways N360UP Boeing 767 34AF/W 37946 United Parcel Service PK-AXV Airbus A320 216 4889 Indonesia AirAsia
Once we'd picked up the car and negotiated the Kuala Lumpar traffic, we arrived at Subang where by a bit of determination we managed to log the following.

As we still had the car we decided to do some more exploring around the perimeter of Sepang, as we knew there was a number of aircraft parked up outside the AirAsia and Malaysian Hangars that we couldn't see from either terminal. The results of which were 2 Manx registered ATRs and 2 of the Tigerair fleet that my travelling companions were still chasing.
9V-TAM Airbus A320 232 4181 Tiger Airways 9V-TAP Airbus A320 232 4445 Tiger Airways M-DMLM Avions de Transport Regional ATR 72 212 527 Elix Aviation Capial Ltd M-LDME Avions de Transport Regional ATR 72 500 558 Elix Aviation Capial Ltd TF-ARH Boeing 747 230BF 22669 Air Atlanta Icelandic
Once the drive around the perimeter was done and the car returned to Avis, it was upto the observation deck for one last visit during which the following were logged. 4R-ABQ Airbus A321 231 3397 SriLankan Airlines A6-EPH Boeing 777 31HER 42327 Emirates Airline A6-EYL Airbus A330 243 809 Etihad Airways B-6208 Airbus A319 112 2555 China Southern Airlines B-6466 Airbus A319 115SL 6269 China Eastern Airlines B-16208 Airbus A321 211SL 6024 EVA Air B-18716 Boeing 747 409F 33732 China Airlines B-LBG Airbus A330 343E 1557 Cathay Pacific Airways HL8009 Boeing 777 3B5ER 41999 Korean Air HS-PPG Airbus A319 131 2664 Bangkok Airways HZ-AK24 Boeing 777 368ER 42262 Saudi Arabian Airlines RP-C8997 Airbus A320 232 2576 AirAsia Zest TC-JNT Airbus A330 303 1476 Turkish Airlines V8-RBX Airbus A320 232SL 6816 Royal Brunei Airlines VN-A610 Airbus A321 231 5994 Vietnam Airlines
It was then onto G-ZBKF for the 13 hour 21 minute flight home to the UK.
Finally, to give a feel of what can be achieved fleet wise in just over 8 days of spotting, the following is a summary of the larger operators in the three countries visited.

Hi Graham
Great log (and photos). Thanks for sharing them with us. You made a fair indentation on the local fleets. I don't know about the Mil-17, being the highlight, the Pioneer and Twin Pin at the museum must come a close second and third.
Regards
Andy
