Day 7 was planned to be another early start as our tour of the Boeing plant was schedulded for 07:30. Unfortunately between organising the visit and arriving a certain Chinese Premier decided to visit the States with Paine Field being his point of entry meant that security was siginficantly higher. As a result our normal tour of the hanger floor and ramp's was available, rather we were put on the public tour which is restricted to the two viewing platforms overlooking the 747 and 777/787 production lines.

This meant that at least 2 767s and one 787 weren't seen though everything else was eventually identified and logged.

With the late start to the day, we decided to call in on Boeing Field and Renton on our way south to Portland to link up with my cousin instead of doing the various collections at Paine Field and the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field.

Report for day 8 of the trip, which was supposed to be "non spotting" day but turned out to be another great day, to follow.

Day 8 (23 Sep) was planned to be a "non spotting" day with my Uncle and Cousin.  However as a result of a chance comment to my cousin by a work colleague a couple of days previous about a small musuem at Hood River.  We decided to take the drive down the very scenic Columbia River gorge to Hood River to have a look.

The museum turned out to be the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum which had been found by Terry Brandt about 8 years previously.

Terry, who we met and had a good long chat with, restores and maintains in flying condition various aircraft built prior and up to the 2nd World War.  With over 70 aircraft and well over a 100 automobiles being stuffed into the buildings.

Unlike Paul Allen (Microsoft co-founder who has a museum at Paine Field), Terry believes that even though the aircraft may be unique that once restored to flying condition it should be flown.  So every September he holds open weekends through the year when some of the aircraft are flown.  With the biggest event being his annual fly-in at the begining of September.

I will definitely be back for this in the next couple of years as talking to Terry not only does his own collection fly the event attracts other vintage aircraft as well with over 400 being present this year.

That's it for this trip, time to start planning the next, Malaysia and Singapore in January 16 though I doubt the next trip will match up to this one, which is probably the best spotting trip I've done purely because of the totally unexpected flight on the C-46 Commando
