Following on swiftly from Ryanair, who have announced something similar, EasyJet has said it will ‘ground the majority of its fleet of aircraft’ from Tuesday.
It will operate rescue flights ‘as required to repatriate customers’ still abroad and will continue to run a ‘minimal schedule of essential services’.
The minimal scheduled services will mainly involve routes serving the UK, it has been reported.
The EasyJet total fleet comprises entirely Airbus aircraft. As of February 2020, the group operated 337 aircraft and has a further 114 on order.

Ryanair says it expects that most if not all flights across the group will be grounded from midnight on March 24.
The airline has posted details of the severely reduced schedule on the Travel Advisory page on its website.
From 18 March at midnight, the airline will cut 80% of flights.
From 24 March at midnight, the airline is expecting to halt all flights expect a very small number of essential flights between UK and Ireland.
Ryanair said it will continue to remain in contact with EU governments and may operate rescue flights to support repatriation.
