The last privately-owned Meteor in the UK, WM167, makes its last flight tomorrow, flying from Coventry to Bruntingthorpe, where it will be maintained in taxiable condition.
Apart from the Martin Baker examples, which are primarily testbeds, there is currently only one other flyable example in the world, in Australia.
Gates @ Bruntingthorpe are only open between 1000-1045. Admission is £10, with under-15s going free. The aircraft is due to arrive late-morning.
On a personal note, the aircraft is of significance to me, because it is possibly the last flyable aircraft my late father worked on during his time in the RAF. WM167 was stationed at RAF Leeming, with 228OCU, in the late 1950s, alongside Javelins, Canberras and Valettas.
The aircraft also has local links, being resident with Warbirds of Great Britain at Blackbushe between 1 December 1975 and 6 July 1984.

Very interesting post Andy. I didn't know your dad's history and links with these great old aircraft and places like Leeming. I'm sure I must have seen this aircraft many times over York where I lived as a kid and I have a few records which bring back great memories from that era and area. Unfortunately the quality of images from the Kodak Box cameras of the day were not so good and My photos of the old photos doesn't help but I hope these are good enough to jog the memory A few from RAF Topcliffe Open Day on 18 June 1960 include Meteor NF14 WS788, Valetta WG259, Varsity WJ895 and Blackburn Beverly XL132 and 1 or 2 Javelins XH984 and XH969 at Leconfield in July 1960 DSC_0171 by yorky22, on Flickr DSC_0162 by yorky22, on Flickr DSC_0159 by yorky22, on Flickr DSC_0168 by yorky22, on Flickr DSC_0161 by yorky22, on Flickr DSC_0164 by yorky22, on Flickr DSC_0163 by yorky22, on Flickr I hope they are interesting and jog a few memories Cheers.......John C
