Looks like the carrier will be moored off Stokes Bay for a few days.
Another Hornet-fest!

There doesn't appear to have been any excitement on local radio and TV at this stage. Not a mention, even in the "Portsmouth News".

Have been checking out the US Navy's website associated with the ship: www.public.navy.mil/airfor/cvn75/Pages/HOME.aspxwww.public.navy.mil/AIRFOR/cvn75/Pages/STRIKE%20GROUP.aspxThese suggest Carrier Air Wing 7 may be onboard with the following units: VFA-25 VFA-83 VFA-103 VFA-143 VAQ-140 VAW-117 HSC-5 HSM-72 VRC-40 The majority of these are different to the units listed in detail above. It is the case that since the carrier visited Souda Bay in June, it has been back to the US, so perhaps various unit changes have taken place. That said, I've also seen a video from the ship's facebook page shot in mid- September which would suggest that VFA-11 'Red Rippers' are still embarked, so who knows. I guess only time will tell. EDIT: Given the makeup of the deployment at Lakenheath, involving VFA-11, VFA-211, VFA-136 and VFA-81 machines, it appears that the detailed CAW-1 Souda Bay listing is probably the more appropriate.

Truman 0900-1200 8/10/18
Stern to bow starboard side (codes only) 307 410 601 (702) 504 301 306 212 107 310 405 311 200 302 222 111 104 214 312 100 Bow to stern port side 501 500 401 400 206 304 103 600 603 (613) (705) (615) 406 211 402 201 407 205 612 617 614 110 101 404 112 Below decks (not seen) 105 202 305 403 502 503 604 611 700 707 711
The carrier swung between 1100-1130. Unlike previous visits, it swung / pivoted around the stern, rather than the bow, so from Stokes Bay you got a decent opportunity to see the bow of the ship rather than its stern.

Tonight's Meridian News reporter said that the traders of Portsmouth had done well, the RN Dockyard had done well and the only people that hadn't were the Ferry Company with a distinct lack of customers wishing to take a visit around the ship. Maybe it was the £15 a head put them off!

Maybe it was the £15 a head put them off! It was far from quiet when we were on it on Monday lunch-time, must've easily smashed £1000 on that trip alone As you'll see from my photos, the outside of the boat was absolutely rammed! No idea what it was like on the weekend though.

Being the cheapskate that I am, I viewed it from the western car park on Stokes Bay.
I was very disappointed when they fixed the pay and display machine late morning.
I suspect the cash box was probably full / tickets expended from the weekend's visitors.

The carrier departed, as planned, today (10/10). Bon voyage, unit next time.
